TPACK Response

After reading TPACK I was able to understand how technology in the classroom is extremely useful, yet can be a difficult process.  The article discusses many factors that can cause difficulties, one factor is that it is constantly changing. The teacher would have to be prepared to use the technology they choose for their classroom, and be ready to keep up with its changes. Along with its changes, the article mentions that it is likely that new software will have some errors. It is the teachers responsibility to learn to deal with these errors they might run into and handle it properly. This made me think back to high school when the teachers would use technology in the classroom, and sometimes it would not work. However, we would be assigned to do another task while the problem was fixed. The article brought up an interesting point about how the teacher must be able to use the technology appropriately in whatever content. Technology can be used in different ways depending on the subject. The teacher has to be able to realize which subjects can be better represented with technology, and will make it easier for the students to understand. Technology has its pros along with its cons, and the teacher has to be prepared to work with both. The TPACK article describes how technology can be a great addition to the classroom as long as the teacher has knowledge on how to present it to their students.

  1. I agree technology is essential within the classroom when it comes to teaching certain subjects because every child learns differently and new methods of presenting material can engage students. But the constant changes will always be a difficult task and sometimes it can be a challenge to deal with. Teachers are responsible like you stated to handle these types of situations. I just hope they don’t become dependent on using it because then it wouldn’t be reliant due to technological problems that can occur.

  2. I agree also that technology can be essential and that it has its pro's. Also when children are introduced to something new it can hold their attention for a good amount of time, this being incorperated with course material may lead to the child to paying more attention and wanting to learn more from this new technology. But I was wondering, does this new technology being used in class going to affect the student doing homework? For example if a student starts to use a smart board in class or computers on a more frequesnt basis going to lead to the child to not doing their homework the old fashion way, and refusing to use old technologies, such as a pencil? This is just a thought that popped into my head because I know if someone took away my laptop for homework and told me to use older technology such as a typewriter I would not be pleased.

  3. Yes you are correct and I think your posts emphasizes that we need to take technology seriously and embrace it. We need to become experts in that it will enhance our teaching. great post! Think about how students can use a blog, supervised by their teacher, to discuss homework problems. They can all help each other learn in what can become an after school virtual classroom.
